St. John Chrysostom Parish Council Minutes
April 12, 2012

The meeting commenced at 7:30 p.m.   Those present included Fr. Mike Tobin, Deacon Butch Kinsella, Carol Heilman, Jenny Souers, Tracy Zoeller, Fred Kemen, Pat Smith and guest, Joanne Ashby.  Chris Banks and Kirby Watts have moved from the parish. The March minutes were accepted as written. 

Finance Committee:  Fred reported the budget is sound and collections are average for this time of the year. It  was suggested to increase the budget in the area of Liturgical Arts.

Worship Committee:  Deacon Butch reported attendance at Holy Week services appeared to be up from last year.  All services went well.  Divine Mercy Sunday, April 15, will be observed by chanting the Chaplet of Divine Mercy after Mass.

Foreign/Local Missions:  Pat reported information to generate interest about a new service organization—The Marthas and Josephs –have been in the bulletin and will continue.  Organizational meeting will be held in early summer.

Altar Society:  Joanne reported a Sundae on Monday (ice cream) will be on May 14.  Each member present at the April 9 meeting agreed to invite two ladies in the parish to increase participation in the Altar Society.  Volunteers are needed to clean the church and hall.  A schedule will be posted in the vestibule for volunteers to take a month.

Faith Formation:  Carol reported two children will make their First Communion on May 6, and  one child will make their First Communion on May 13.  A reception will be organized after both celebrations.  One child was confirmed at the Easter vigil and will share in the reception on May 13.

Why Catholic:   Pat reported the Lenten sessions have been completed.  The topic of prayer will continue during the next season in the fall.

Little Shepherds Ministry:  Jenny reported college students have been contacted via facebook and e-mail.

Renovation:  Fr. Mike distributed a document entitled The Worship of the Roman Catholic Church and the Best Qualities of St. John Chrysostom, linking documentation in the resource Built of Living Stones Art, Architecture, and Worship Guidelines of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, the present state at St. John and the improvement proposed for St. John.  This document will be distributed to parishioners after Mass on April 15.   Architecture rendering of proposed improvements were presented by Deacon Butch.  After discussion, no decision was made.  A presentation to the parish will be made by Mark Trier, architect, after Mass on May 20.

PCAL:  Pat will attend the Pastoral Care of Archdiocese of Louisville on April 14 at the cathedral.  The topic is evangelization.

Meeting adjourned at 10:00  p.m.  Next meeting is May 10 beginning with prayer at 7:00 p.m.
